I always wondered why they didn't supercharge the 427

It must be a reliability issue. I beleive that the 427 pushes the ragged edge in several areas, and GM must have felt the LSA (LS3?) was a better platform.
Or it was to preserve the 427 moniker....

Because the 7.0 block has thin cylinder liners and they easily crack under boost pressure.
I bought our 2002 C5 Z06 new......last new Vette I will ever buy, my attitude, let the early adopters suffer the rapid depreciation.....buy 3 years into the model year....the poor people who paid $10K over sticker were shocked at the depreciation of their 2001 Z06s when the 02s came out with 20 more HP and the heads up display which was deleted on the 2001s for weight factors? Glad I bought our C6 Z06 " new/used " as it allowed me to not have such a bad taste in my mouth when GM was discounting the 2013 Z06's $20K off MSRP to rid the lot of a Vette that outperforms the 2014 Stingray. I would also wait for published lap times, release of this car can only cause C6 Z06/ZR1 prices to decline....nothing wrong with either of those 2 Vettes

Yes, years ago I put down $10,000 before the release date. When my customized vette arrived they wanted $20,000 over sticker price. C-6 Z06

To much market pricing from the market data researchers. Too much high tech with all the electronic cam, fuel, trans and suspension controls. Too darn tight to get in and out of - for access u need to be a yoga master.
For less money u can drive a supercharged Cadillac, have nearly as much fun and your back will love it.

I still love driving my 2010 Z06 which I bought new. I thought about a used C6Z06 and then decided no can do with a car like that and, boy, was I correct in that assumption. The LS7 is right on the knife edge of reliability when pushed like a race engine usually is and buying a used C6Z06 for me was way too risky since buyers of such cars are NOT likely to baby them. I bought the Z06 in January 2010, dead of winter from Kerbeck Crovettes out of NJ-$12K off the list price for a 2LT Z06-DEAL…even new-$69K. Would I buy a base corvette used? Yes. ZR1 or new Z06? NO
PS I doubt the new Z06 can be had for $89K loaded-expect that price to be $5-10K more …at least not for a few years
