Oil analysis on 538 mile ZZ4 motor
I'm using Shell 10w-30 during the break-in period and add 4 ounces of Red Line Additive at each oil change. I initially changed oil at 50 miles then at 300 and at this end of season change of 538 - so this is the analyzis on the last 238 miles. What about Blackstones comment on the "Lead?"
Happy New Year to all.

Lead is a little high as he says, The high silicon (dirt) will cause early wear in all parts. Since this is the 3rd change of oil in this engine, seems like any original silicon would be gone. Do you have an open breather or some other place dirt could enter?

The additive package in the oil is designed to work together. When you add additional additives it can cause additive clash. The calcium (detergent) is very high. If you look at the VOA of the Shell 10W-30 it uses calcium as its primary detergent, also boron. The Redline additive is also very high in Calcium (17,000 PPM). Combined the overall detergent levels are too high. Detergents are polar molecules, ZDDP is also a polar molecule. They compete for the same space and high detergent will "wash" the protective additives off the parts along with suspending contaminants. I would lose the redline additive and go with a conventional oil that contains high ZDDP until you hit 1000 miles. Valvoline VR1 10W-30 has higher levels of ZDDP and also tests very high on the film strength testing 540Rat does and is readily available. I would go with something like that, lose the Redline additive and retest @ 1000 miles.
