Tell me again the extension length you need....and do you need the output shaft also.....my supplier at the salvage yard might have something....I can let you know Monday night.

If you buy one in the mesntime, let me know that also.

from what i can tell / have researched, the extensions are all the same length, so no shaft would have to be changed
have found another one on online, but he's quoted over 200$ to post, so have asked for a proper quote.

the one on the left is what i'm looking for

The 700-R4/4L60 (top) and the TH-400 can be interchanged using a tailshaft
from a ’80-’82 Caprice or SS Impala to relocate the transmission mount.

the one on the left is what i'm looking for

There....I'm going to copy this reply and print it for the salvage yard Monday.

Re-organizing the gauge cluster/radio wiring has taken all day to do a 2 hour job.....

I'll check on the tailshaft housing tomorrow.

That's ok, the place I'm getting the trans from hasn't removed it from the donor vehicle yet.
Don't pick it up till tomorrow (Wed arvo our time).

Got the quote back from the ebay'r that had 212$ shipping on one, he's now quoted 70$ postage...
I had a "cast iron exhaust manifold" FedEx'd for 50$ last year, and got it within a week.

Not yet...I'll go check today and let you know if I find one.

Good looking transmission...some spray-on aluminum wheel cleaner along with a pot-scouring pad will have that case sparkling.

Are you going to DIY the rebuild/with a good $30 book it's a breeze.....

Just waiting for it to be delivered from an online English bookstore, way cheaper than local.

i emailed a trans shop that was advertising a mount, this is their reply,
Length of the housing from the seal to where the housing sits against the case is 7 3/8".
The difference between the TH400 & the 700R4 with this housing as far as mounting hole length is about a 1/4" based on my measurements.

no problem about not finding any, guess they would be getting rare these days.

have found a couple on ebay, so i'll just grab one of them.
then i'll send ya a link

Edit. PM sent

look what was waiting for me when i got home today after work

except for the driveshaft, the rest came from BTO, and i only ordered last thurs night, 29th jan.. that's better shipping than i can get local.
still waiting on the extension that was ordered on the 23rd jan....

the yoke seams smaller than i thought it would be, guess i have to use the combo unit joint to the driveshaft?

trans is off getting checked out before i install it, was unknown condition when i got it.

the driveshaft came from a bloke down here that wrecks US cars.

the tail extension just turned up, on a sat morning, and we don't normally get postal delivery's on a sat.
just waiting to get trans back from rebuilders next week.
will then put extension on and take a few measurement photos.

the BTO ez tv cable set up comes with a plate that goes under the carb

but unfortunately it fouls with the std '72 vette quadrajet throttle cable mount.

so will have to modify/make a new bracket at work during the week.

have a car show next weekend, so hope to start the swap after the 16th feb.

riverracer au, what did you decide to do about the transmission mount bracket? I just found a couple of them in my tool box from when I made a bunch a few years ago.
