Default 100 Amp upgrade!

Hi all!

Did 100 Amp electrical upgrade to my 69, since I am finishing up my frame-on resto mod anyway...so why not here!

I LOVE the look. Upgraded wires:
-starter to alternator
-alternator to horn relay
-ground on alternator
-power to additional panel for elect fans and headlamp upgrade
-added a fuse panel to clean up stock fuse box with low amp things

HUGE SHOUTOUT to Tony at CE Auto Electric
Great guy, super cool, and big help (amongst others! HERE (Mooser))

DAMMIT...my files are too big!

Looking great! Now you're ready for the 21st Century and some 1,000,000,000 lumen bulbs for the headlamps!

EDIT: I WOULD suggest that you install the old-style voltage regulator onto the inner wheel well and connect some dummy color coded wires to the terminals "just to keep people guessing....LOL"!

Nice job
Remember, those alternators are self exciting. Meaning you have to rev the engine to @2000 rpm to turn it on. Some are more sensitive than others but I've seen guys idle their vette and drive it like an old lady or in traffic, then wonder why the battery keeps going dead.

GREAT INFO on the lighting guy! bookmarked him! like the light options!

the electric guy I used that supplied a PLUG IN PLAY harness with relays was
Tony at CE Auto Electric! SUPER cool guy! Great product! Easy install!!! literally plug in play!!!! took me longer to unwrap the package than actually install!!!

Hi Factor, nice job, I do have a question since I'm doing the same upgrade. This is regarding the amp gauge wiring. OEM It starts at the horn relay orange fuseable then to gauge, out of gauge via a black wire that is soldered onto a orange wire[10 ga] that also comes from horn relay. In the upgrade where did you tap into for the black wire? Mine is also a 69. Thanks T

I not familiar with that plug in upgrade fuse clip....looks like a good idea, BUT, take that fuse holder apart and get a GOOD look at the backside where you find the spring steel has been bent over the copper looking bus bars and so steel corrodes, and gets hot enough to melt the internal solder on them cartridge fuses.....I dunno what if any will happen to the adapters.....

I removed all the high amp fuses off the holder and wired in fuse holders it looks like a mess, but it's up high and can't be seen.....

I never did get a round tuit to enable the front lighting circuit with the fuse upgrade....so only ~1/2 of the firewall plug setup is still in use, but I seldom drive at night.....
maybe I should put in high current relays to benefit the voltage to the lights.....

but I"M lazy......

OEM Fusebox- Yes- it really is cheesy- not the greatest by any stretch.

I moved my fusebox- and really no current is flowing through it-used a couple "sub-panels" made up w/ interlocking fuse/relay sockets totally configurable- to control ECU/injectors/coil packs/fuel pump/fans/Pwr Windows/headlights/AC.

Moved it so it's a little more accessible-not mounted down yet-it'll sit back an inch or two-

NO...the wirenut was to test my inertial/rollover switch to shut down the fuel pump-

HEEHE....when I splice a wire in any car, I solder the connection and maybe then put a wirenut over it.....or shrink wrap that I don't really trust in a vibration environment.... for just get lazy and put vinyl electrical tape and a tie wrap over it, then into the later model pretty covering that looks like a spring....black plastic....

Ditching the amp meter for a voltage gauge sounds good to me. T

absolutely!

makes sense AND was easier upgrading the wires!

if you need a good contact for wiring and looms etc...give tony a call at CE Auto Electric...tell him Corvette Ron sent you...I get nothing from it, but it will give him a good starting point!

I put a 100 amp in mine years ago after I discovered that everytime I turned on the rear defroster it would pop the breaker.

W/O a defroster the stock Alt was, if memory serves me, only 65 amp!!!!!

I'm surprised it even ran the stereo

Commander! LOL! yes...2 options originally on these 45 AMP and 63 AMP alternators...I am running more stuff (dual radiator fans, radio system, upgraded headlights) so figured would roll with higher amperage...

just a thought, "popping fuses" maybe a bad ground?
