rear half shaft direction
When installing a rear half shaft is there a right way and a wrong way? what I mean is does one fit towards the wheel and one end towards the hub in a predetermined way? Or, can I just bolt them in how ever I pick them up. They were removed from the car for a full trailing arm rebuild and the half shafts were blasted, painted and all new u-joints installed. I don't know how they were when I removed them...

It really makes no difference. If you lined them up perfectly in your garage and drove the car around a corner, the shafts would not be aligned. The only way they would stay in place is if you locked up the rear. This defeats the purpose of having a differential. Jerry

Jerry,
You may have misunderstood his question. He was asking if the shafts had a 'tire side' and a 'diff side'. This was answered in the above responses.
