Default Power window went down and stayed there?

I'm having a issue with my 75 my driver window it went down and stayed there, I swapped the L&R switched same results, when I press the switches up & down the dome lights dim so the power seems to pull from the relay/motor but it does nothing it will not budge. I sprayed the crap out of everything in that door with WD40 and even after smacked the window motor with a hammer in an attempt to dislodge it, same.
I just got the car 2 weeks ago when I first got it I noticed the Driver window Up was real slow compared to the down or compared to passenger side up and down. Is there a way to test the window regulator or window motor? I'd hate to order one replacement part and it is the other.
Also if it is stuck all the way down how can I remove it?

Thanks in advance,
Ralph

My plug was loose on mine so i took it out, sprayed with contact cleaner and greased the bearing cog and put back in. I brought a new one to replace it but havnt got around to installing it yet. i would test the switch has power when you are pressing up on the window button.

If the light dims when you press the switch, it's working. You have either a binding of the motor or the regulator in the driver's window. I think you're going to have to take the door panel off and troubleshoot.

While the year on this is different, the circuit is the same. Wire colors will vary.

What is the easiest way to identify if it is the window regulator or motor?

Thanks

you can't.. if you have it narrowed down to motor or gears, you'll have to take it apart.

Check the wiring, I had the same issue and it ended up being a broken wire somewhere between the switch and the motor, how I found that it was the problem was I ran a jumper wire from the switch to the motor and it worked, so I ran that wire all the way there and you wouldn't be able to tell by just looking at it.

I think your power window lift motor is in need of replacement. They often become completely non-functional when they fail and seem to always leave you with a window that is partially down. That is what happened to my '71.

Had the exact same problem with my 78, after taking it apart turned out to be a bad motor.
