Default Removing dip stick tube 1970 454

Any tips for removing dip stick tube without damaging it on my 1970 C3 with a 454 as I am removing the engine. Does it just pull out, what tools should I use; any tips welcomed?

Paul

They are just a friction fit and pull out. Some are tighter than others. All I can say is the tube is thin and distorts easily! Probably remove the oil pan and tap it out from the bottom.

I just used a shop rag and some pliers, gently squeeze, twist and lift

and if it's still too tight there's a small lip at the base of the tube where it goes into the pan. Use a small wrench that's smaller than the lip and tap it up until it pops out.

I ended up using some freeze and release spray and what was a tight fit came out really easily.

I just grabbed and twisted the tube until it came out.

There was bracket welded on it to mate the tube to the block. Among the worse welding job I've seen. Must have been an apprentice welder.

I slid a box end wrench to the bottom of the tube, wrapped duct tape around the tube a bunch of times and then beat the wrench against the duct tape with a hammer. Your results may vary, but it worked for me.
