Default Passenger Side Wiper Won't Clear Wiper Door

Ok, I just fixed my wiper door on my 71 Vette, so it now works after a 13 year hiatus. But my passenger side wiper does not get completely in out of the way before the wiper door shuts. Is there an adjustment to make the passenger side wiper sit slightly deeper?

Also I am struggling with trying to get the old wiper blades off. Is there just a pin and a star washer that holds it on?

Hi s,
Questions… no answers.
Is the wiper actuator adjusted properly so the door is opening all the way?
Are the wiper blade holders the originals… some aftermarket holders are too 'tall'.
What you describe is the typical connection for the holder and arm. They are a bit difficult to get apart.
So….
Regards,
Alan

The wiper door is opening all the way. Also the problem is when the wiper door shuts, the wiper does not get completely in before the door shuts on it.

The wiper blade holders are original.

Thanks again Alan for your support.

you dont state what year the car is but this site has the wiper adjustment procedure. The blades may not be fully in the down position when in park which would cause the blade to be not low enough as the door closes

The passenger wiper arm is the one that trips the vac-switch to close the door, you may want to look at the switch, they are slotted for some adjustment. Moving it away from the windshield will allow the wiper to be down farther when the switch triggers the door to close.

Just a thought
M

I believe the metal bracket to plastic switch are slotted

Hi s,
M's right on.
The arm/lever on the wiper transmission linkage is what pushes on the vacuum switch.
The arm is adjusted in the center at the wiper motor, and the switch is adjusted at it's mounts.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Which should I adjust first. In other words which one is the better one to make the adjustment.

Thanks,
Lew

Use the override switch under the dash to keep the door open, let the wipers cycle and park, then close the door. If everything is ok (not close, should be clearance) then the the wipers are ok, go and look at the vacuum switch.
Move it back (towards the front of the car)
Long wobble extension on a 1/4 ratchet will let you access it from the side with the door open.

Ok, I performed that procedure and when I use the override switch and keep the door open the wipers will park properly. Thus I must need to adjust the vacuum switch. So the holes for the hold down bolts to the vacuum switch are slotted for adjustment is that adjustment vertical or a horizontal adjustment?

The bracket looks like this (stolen from a vendor site)

The two holes go to the firewall, the two slots go to the valve.

So moving the switch down should increase my time for the door to stay open? Is that correct?

Yes, move it away from the windshield should allow the wiper to go down farther before activating the switch to close the door

What condition is your wiper override switch in? GM original or repop?

When I install these switches I pull off the dust boot, and fully park the passenger wiper. Adjust the plunger on the switch to give about 1/8 inch more travel by pushing the switch against the wiper. Then tighten the 2 small bolts. Cycle the wipers one more time, and park them. Check to make sure you still have that 1/8 inch more travel in the plunger, and adjust if necessary. Install the boot.
