1971 Corvette more wiring..
Trying to undo some bad prior work...on the wiper door limit switch I have 2 wires, one yellow and one brown or orange with a black tracer. The yellow goes down into a small harness..next to the yellow in the harness is a blue wire that's just cut. The brown or orange with the black tracer runs into the car through the firewall and has a female connector on it...no idea where it goes. Any help would be greatly appreciated..I'm not very good with wiring.
Thanks, Bill

Do you have a wiring diagram???
Do you have a volt/ohm meter???
Good clear photos of what you are seeing would greatly help. AND if you post photos...please take at least a photo a little bit away so the area where it is located will aid in what these wires are for. So ..strictly close ups photos will not do.
AND you might need to cut into the black tape to verify a color of the wire with the black tracer stripe on it...in your reply because sometimes a flash from a camera changes the actual color.

yellow wire is painted black...the other appears to be brown with a black tracer.
This is were the brown wire with black tracer comes out
This is the yellow wire off the wiper stop switch..there is a broken/cut blue wire next to it

Hi Bill,
Originally there were two 12 gauge red/white stripe wires coming out of the limit switch that joined in a rubber plug.
It appears both those wires have been cut off the switch and other wires added in your pictures.
Coming out of the engine harness were two short leads, 12 gauge, red with a white stripe. These joined in a female rubber plug to receive the plug coming from the limit switch.
I'd unravel the wrap on the harness a bit to see if these wires are still there and begin to test from there.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

I'm cutting back the tape now and cant find the red wires. I'm assuming that they are gone.
The yellow wire with black tracer is currently connected to the wiper stop switch. I think that wire was part of the coil. The car is now HEI. I cant find the yellow wire with black tracer on the wiring diagram..also the cut blue wire any idea on that one? Also found a heavy gauge yellow wire that runs inside the car and goes to nothing...I hate wiring!

Ahaa! So that's what the plugged vacuum lines and unplugged wires are for under my dash---the previous owner eliminated the relay when he installed a long hood on the car eliminating the wiper door. He must have bypassed/spliced some wires together in my firewall bundle.
I guess HT1663WB still has his wiper door since he's asking about the cut and/or unplugged wiring?

Hi Bill,
I'm surprised you didn't find them.
I can understand someone cutting the connector off but not going through the trouble pulling the wires out of the harness.
Is it the original harness?

Alan

Alan, I don't think this is the correct harness. The wiring does not match up with the diagram I have. Every where I look there is something cut or spliced in. The interior harness had a couple burned up wires and I'm starting to think the engine harness may have been the cause. Is the harness difficult to replace?
Thanks,Bill

Hi Bill,
Actually the engine harness is pretty easy to replace.
It's certainly takes less work than the interior and rear lighting harnesses.

Alan

Hi Bill,
No, there are 4 main harnesses:
Forward Lighting
Engine
Dashboard
Rear Lighting.
The engine harness is usually the most worn because of it's environment …heat and gas/oil.
The dash harness is usually the most butchered because it's hard to access and bubba doesn't understand how it works.
Regards,
Alan
The wire in your picture appears to have a 'sheath' on it… is it the wire for the temperature sender?
