No door jamb water diverter holes
do all 1974 corvettes have the door jamb / sill plate water diverter assembly?
My Assembly Manual shows it added to the drawing in July and my car came out of the factory in September, but there are no rivet holes in either the passenger or driver side door jambs or under the sill plates.
I see the assembly for sale as a item for 1972 - 1977.
can someone please clarify?
Thanks

i watching as i have a similar query
my late build 72 (#22729) has no sign of ever having them, but a club members early 72 (#01200 ish) does.
not quite the same as the one shown above, but just a strip riveted to the jamb.
didn't find any reference in the AIM.
maybe it was a delete change thru out the '72 build run.

Hi,
It seems the simple fiberglass riveted strip was used in 70 and 71 and disappeared during the 72 model year.
It's difficult to find in the AIM. UPC1 Bolt/Weld, Sheet B9, Item 13.
Does the 72 AIM show the strip or is there a revision listed?
Regards,
Alan

My 72 does not have the plate. I remember back in 74 when I got the car I got tired of the carpet getting wet from washing it when water got in by running down the jamb. I solved that by gluing in a piece of weatherstripping at the same angle as the factory did.

well there you go, it was removed in Feb '72.
found it shown in a copy of the '71 AIM, and then compared to my '72 AIM.
thankyou Alan71, your knowledge astounds us all

7/17/73 was before 74 production ramped up. Based on the date, GM was intending to install the diverters on the 74 models. It is possible early cars may not have had them since 74 production began within a month of the 7/17/73 AIM date.

thanks fellas for the info.
since it looks like there were never any diverters on my car to begin with and I don't have a problem with water in the door jambs, that is one less thing to worry about for now.
I am taking this car apart to get ready for the paint shop and want to get all the components lined up to go back in place once the paint is done.

I think it would be a good move to install the water diverters, whether you go with the 74 design or whether you use the earlier diverter strip.
The early ones were like that in the photo...just a strip pop-riveted to the door jamb. Two 1/8" holes drilled and pop it on.
You may not be driving it in the rain, but you still wash your car. It would prevent any future "wet carpets".

I can do it no problem, and can add it to the long list of install items.
do you know the exact location of the newer assembly design?
Anybody have a pic?
here is what I have now:

Certainly you could install either. Eckler's sells the later style for $15 each side. Or you could make your own of the older style; some strips of 1/8" thick plastic or aluminum about 1/2" wide and length as required (measure per the above photo). Drill two 1/8" holes, round off the leading edge and taper it (if you wish). Attach with Pop-rivets and paint with body color touchup paint. (I think I've seen some that are not painted; but those may be replacements.)
