Given the lateral loading on that rack in any spirited driving, that aluminum U clamp on the driver side is a disASSter in the making....needs be steel....

you getting no backup to that D shape doughnut except from the flat side, that clamp WILL fatique and break, not a question of IF, but WHEN.....

You seem to be forgetting that the rack housing that this is clamped around is aluminum as well. The cross-section of that housing is only .25" thick. Our clamp is much thicker than that and is not encountering any significant bending loads. Our analysis and experience has proven the opposite of your theory.
