Spectre oil pickup required for Spectre Pan?
I have got a Spectre oil pan No. 5486 on my shelves and thinking about replacing the original pan in my 454 (1974) in order to have some more oil capacity. I do not have a Spectre oil pickup No. 5487 ( http://www.spectreperformance.com/se...aspx?prod=5487 ) and I wonder whether I cannot leave my original pickup in place? I also found the Spectre pan has two trap doors but no baffle plate as the original pan seems to have. Before taking off the original pan I would like to know whether the Spectre 5486 pan is really an improvement and the original pickup should defiinitely be replaced by the Spectre 5487 type.

if the pan is deeper than the stock pan you need the extended pickup, 5487. Why do you need more capacity and have you considered using an extra long oil filter, Fram HP4 just an example.

Spectre Pan
Well, I thought a bigger pan should provide more thermal stability - especially in German traffic. I measured the same depth of the sump as at the original pan, it´s just wider. An extra long oil filter could be also a good measure!
