Default C3 Automatic Transmission Whine

First post, but I've gained tons of info from this forum over the past couple years.

I have a 71 with an original 350 and automatic transmission. Recently as rpm's increase I start to hear a whine. Almost like a higher pitch turbo whine. As the gear shifts the whine goes away until I start to hit higher rpm's and it starts all over. I don't seem to hear anything in 3rd no matter the rpm's. Any suggestions on where to start looking or trouble shooting tips.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Rookie suggestions here: It could be something simple........old fluid/low fluid level/clogged fluid filter/extra seal stuck onto intake tube that filter fits onto/parking pawl slightly out of adjustment.

Wait for the experts to comment.

As mentioned by doorgunner, a stopped up transmission filter will cause this noise. Hope that's all it is. mike...
