Dumb Question.....Help Please (Again)
I am so freaking frustrated tonight.
Regarding my power steering pump.....what else. For the bottom outlet hose, there are two seperate nuts, a small one that connects the hose to the pump, then a quite larger one that the hose goes into. (I would take a picture but it got too dark on me)
When I am disconnecting the hose (or trying to like I did all night) what nut should I be loosening. I have been trying the smaller one (that is actually connected to the hose) I have had NO LUCK on that nut. It looks like I started to round it off so I quit for the night.
Is that the nut I should be undoing?
Thanks guys.....

Re: Dumb Question.....Help Please (bsowa)
From what I can see here http://www.corvettefaq.com/redir.asp?site=183
I have been working on the right nut.....I just cant get it with the clearance and angle I have under the car.
Might have to look like a real dumb a#$ tomorrow and reinstall the alternator and take it to Midas and ask them to loosen it for me.....

The nut on the left is welded to the PS housing.
Why not try and loosen the other end of the hose, from the steering valve and pull the pump and hose out together.
Hope this helps.

The big nut you are referring to is the flow control valve and it is tapped into the pump. Sounds like you are working on the correct nut (the smaller one). Again, if you are replacing the line try cutting the line off, then use a 6 point socket or a box end wrench. If it's rounded off, probably time to replace it anyway, probably a small pipe wrench and cheater bar will work.

You need to buy a good fitting wrench not a cheaply made one. I have Napa's fitting wrenches. All the hose nuts you MUST use a fitting wrench on them or will strip them. The one with the two nuts you need to hold the big nut with a standard 1" open-end wrench and the smaller one you must use the fitting wrench. A fitting wrench looks like a closed end wrench with a small opening to get over the metal line. I hope this helps out.

Fitting wrench - flare wrench - flare nut wrench.
I'd get 'em at Sears Craftsman. 22.99 for a set:

This one cost a bit more. The sears one should work fine. Yes flare nut wrench is the same thing.

The Snap-on comes with sentimental value built into the wrench. When you loose one you will :cry

I know it is to late, but why are you having such a tough time with this? My pump had two lines coming out the back. One had a simple pressure clamp on it and the other, the power line, had one nut. I loosened the nut from the top and it popped off. That was it, no biggie. I covered the power line with a plastic baggy and went about my bitness. Hope you get this fixed.
