Default I can't open her up

The throttle cable on my '76 is unadjustable. I have it hooked up to a Holley 750 mech sec dbl pumper. When I put the pedal all the way down to the floor, the butterflies don't open all the way. It seems like the travel is limiting it. Some folks say that the only way to fix this is to pull the gas pedal rod and bend it out further for more travel. Any of you have a better idea than this? How about the aftermarket? I really need some help here-Thanx

There was slack in the throttle cable between the carb and the cable bracket on my 70. I fabricated a bracket that moved the cable hold rearward and took up the slack.

I pulled on the gas pedal rod and bent it. It's a cheap fix, took 10 seconds and it worked.

Two problems with bending the pedal rod. The pedal will be further from the floor than the brake pedal, and you may break the plastic bracket that attaches the pedal rod to the floor.

I had this same problem with my 69. I had to back the cable 3/8ths of an inch rearward out of the hold down bracket to get full travel even after bending the pedal arm. I ordered a new cable and after comparing the old and new cable, found the old cable had stretched and was 3/8ths of an inch longer than the new replacement. Problem solved for me.

I don't have a picture that shows mine clearly, but, Summit (and other places) sell an adjustable bracket that bolts to the carb bolts. It allows you to easily move the cable bracket back and forth for any set-up. They even have them with transmission cable brackets as well for later years. They are pretty reasonable too!

I swapped motors in my 77 and went with a Holley 750 DP mech sec also.

Then I used a pedal assembly from a 72 parts car and the correct Holley cable bracket. Now I get all WOT, wasn't getting it before...just a slight difference.

I'm thinking about using something like this (there are different styles of throttle cable holders available:

Thanx, I think I'll try to just bend the rod for now, and then go from there. Is the gas pedal rod a pain in the a$$ to get out of there? The car is about 10 miles away and haven't had a chance to look yet.

I tried that bracket and another type of adjustable bracket. It works to take the slack out of the cable but it didn't work to get the secondaries completely open. Hence, I bent the gas pedal rod which imho is the easiest, maybe not the best fix, but it works.

Wow, that is bubba'd. But hey, it works!

I have a Holley carb that works off of vacuum secondaries. As long as I can get the primary to open all the way, it should be good. I'll post up some pics if I get it to work.

You can also put a zip tie on the end of the gas pedal cable to take any slack out. Worked great for me.
