Default Which parts should I buy for a cam upgrade?

So I'm looking at upgrading the cam in my '75. It's an L48 with a recently rebuilt 350 from a 1993 Chevy C/K which seems to be nearly identical to the stock L48 engine. I believe the headers came off the truck. They are GM 9932461 headers that look pretty tough.

I'm looking at boosting my power above 300hp and no further than 400hp. Also; I want a very lopey sound. Something like this:

What parts will I need to look at buying if I want to do the work myself? What cam would you recommend for that lopey sound?

Edit: What about Thumpr like this?

I want you to know right away "lumpy" cams need low gears or you'll end up with a lumpy idle and lousy freeway running along with poor gas mileage. The only way you can have a lumpy idle AND good freeway running is by installing a TH700R4 and 3.73 gears.

Roller cam is the way to go. To get the same power you don't have to get such a radical idling cam. It'll have a lot better drivability.

GM went to roller blocks in '86. So you should have roller lifters. You need a cam, valve springs, retainers, keepers possible different length push rods. Depending on mileage might need a timing chain set and new rockers.
As other advised you need lower gears and an OD trans to have some drive ability. Need to consider headers, free flowing exhaust and possible a cooling system upgrade.
Like they say "Speed costs, how fast do you wan to go?"

I agree with all the above. First to get a real lopey idle you will need supporting exhaust, manifold, compression and stall converter if auto. The comp xe262h that I ran in my l48 had a good idle, a little lopey but not that all out radical cam sound that so many seem to look for. So first off, what exhaust, rear gears and stall converter are you running? Whats Your budget? what rear gears are you running? How do you drive your vette? I'd be glad to point you in the right direction, but would need answers to the forementioned questions.

She has pretty ****** home-made true duals and headers from a truck (Going to replace that all with a Hooker system) and Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers. Gears I belieeve are 3:55, and I have no idea what for the stall converter. Can overhaul that if needed, I guess. I drive her just as you could imagine any teenager with a Corvette as a daily would. Haha

Hoping to stay under $2,000 with this. Also I drive auto

Thanks for the help, by the way

Afr 195's, comp xe276hr for a roller or 268h, if you go roller add 800$, rpm intak for a hydraulic flat tappet. With a roller cam, 3500ish, money will spent. Rpm (air gap if you can fit)

I second the XE268H cam, but I'd check your current horsepower first. Also; lumpy cams are so due to overlap between intake and exhaust valves and actually bleed off some compression.

So, what heads are on now? You should try to get as much of a complete picture

Verify that the truck headers will fit your car.

Correct cams make power. You will have a roller block so going hyd roller with OEM type lifters is fine. Lobe lift will need to be no more than .375" to use OEM retaining system and OEM lifters.
