I'd posted this about 3 weeks ago but it sort of got buried. I"M BAAACK.

Still wondering how much was on the car when it was painted at the factory, and what should be taken off and painted separately to ensure a good job. Or is it better to put it all together and just "let 'er fly"? What experiences has everyone had?

As you can see in my signature I took off everything that I could. I had about 7 different paint jobs to strip off plus I am changing the color so it all needed to be done separately. Mind you though this is a huge undertaking and I am not sure that I would do it again. Good Luck!!!! :cheers:

I haven't painted mine yet, but soon...

I plan to take the doors and hood off. I'll paint the door sills and the hood opening and then put them back on and shoot the entire car.

Of course all the emblems and parking lights and trim and rear bumpers (its a 73) will come off.

Well, while we are on the topic, does anyone take the front and rear plastic bumpers off or paint them on the car?

When I painted my car last year I took off anything that could be taken off. The factory didn't paint the jambs ahead of the hinges so it was a pain to keep clean. It was easier than I thought to rehang them before I shot the body, just have a friend to hold the door. They aren't heavy if you gut them.

I didn't and wished I had. When I put on my new door panels I noticed that I hadn't painted enough of the door. I guess I'll fix that this winter.That 79 looks cool I thought about that color but went with Viper red.
