C3: How to remove link between transmission (reverse) and ignition switch?
I just bought my first C3, a 1969 427 M22. Please excuse the "newbie" question, but is there a way to disable/ disconnect the linkage that requires the transmission to be in reverse before the key can be removed from the ignition. All of that "stuff" needs to go ( into a dumpster ).
Thanks

In 1969 there were only 101 M22's installed, so if your car actually has an M22 it would be a pretty rare and valuable car. You may want to rethink removing parts and throwing them into a dumpster.

Hi,
The reverse lock can be disabled by disconnecting the reverse cable at the lever on the steering column just where it enters the engine compartment.
The lever must be held in the 'up' position. Some folks use a piece of soft wire to hold it in that position.
Don't through any parts away… someone may want them some day.
The lock is pretty unintrusive since it all happens when the shifter is moved into and out of reverse. Many people don't even realize it's there.
Regards,
Alan

3s matching?
I kept the cotter pin and washer. The numbers on the trans are: main case 3925661, side cover 3952648 & tailhousing 3857584. The 6 numbers on the R/F engine pad match the last 6 numbers of the vin. The other digits on the engine pad are: T 1031 LO. From my 15 minutes of internet research this appears to be the correct M22 transmission for a very late production 1969 "LO" engine car. But, I'll throw it open to the experts...

I believe there is a code stamped on the main case of the trans with the letters A, B or C, they correspond to M-22, M-20, M-21 but you can do your own research as to which is which....

Hi 69,
There should be 2 groups of stamped digits on the flange of the transmission.
On a vin derivative indicating what car the transmission was installed in at St.Louis and another indicating the assembly date for the transmission and it configuration.. an M22 would have an C.
Maybe?
Regards,
Alan
This one is a bit odd in that one sequence was x'd out and re-stamped, but should give you an idea what to look for.

So you're a "newbie" and your first C3 just happens to have the engine stamped "LO" (which is an L88) and you want to remove parts from it and throw them in the dumpster?
This is getting a bit hard to believe.

CC3 is a replacement main case, so the 3925661 main case didn't come in your Corvette from the factory...
The 3925661 main case was used when building M-22 Muncies, it was also used to build M-20&21's...
The 3925661 case was the only Muncie main case used from Sept./Oct. of 1969 until the end of Muncie production...
Hope this helps... Crash

I cut the cable right under the guide bracket on the firewall and had a weld put in the cable to hold it in the up position. Looks stock from above and a replacement cable is cheep.. have a 5 speed in my 71.
I actually picked up a "bad cable" from the local vet shop and that is what I cut. Saved the original ...
