Thanks!

Edelbrock performer intake, carb, and 2" air filter with a drop base. A wingnut will scrape on the hood, but a hexnut just clears, with factory style replacement motor mounts.

I have a 79 but previous owner put a 1980 front clip and hood - a few years ago, I ran vortec heads, Edelbrock 2116 intake with a Quadrajet, and a 1.75 inch drop base air cleaner - fit with maybe 3/8" to 1/2" clearance, no problem.

I've had the Edelbrock vortec performer and am now running the weiand street warrior. There's no difference in performance, it's less heigh then the Edel. and the vacuum port is further up the runner, closer to the head. With some carbs there's almost no room to mount a vacuum fitting under it when using the Edelbrock manifold.

"Double pumpers" are made specifically for drag or track racing where the engine speed remains at 4000+ rpm or higher all the time. Only vacuum or AVS secondary carburetors should be used on street engines to prevent low speed bogging when the throttle is opened suddenly.

I run a 780 double pumper on my 400" and it doesn't bog at low rpm, I ran a 750 vaccum secondary and tuned it to my enging and it didn't run any better on the low end and actually didn't pull as hard up top(could have been the extra 30 cfm). I know that you're anti double pumper and all and thats ok, but they can be tuned and used successfully on a street engine. I don't mean to argue with you, but it can be done as I have done it. This doesn't mean that I think that every engine should run a double pumper, but modified street engines can and do make use of a properly tuned mechanical secondary carberator. Your just gonna have to agree to disagree with those of us that run mechanical secondaries.
