Headlight switch
Is it normal for the headlight switch to get hot enough to burn you? I have the switch out and had the car running while hooking up the vacuum lines. I got burned on the porcelain..switch looks new..

The rheostat for the dash lights gets very hot, that's why the ceramic is there to radiate it off some. I can't say if yours is getting too hot, but the get too hot to touch comfortably

The dome light/courtesy light dimmer's rheostat DOES get very hot when the rheostat is being used so yes it'll get really hot. But in normal use driving down the highway with the headlights ON the rheostat isn't being used.

Except for all the dash lamps. The dome/courtesy lamps don't go through the dimmer, they are switched either off or on.
