Default Quick timing question

I have the 350/350 for 1970...I found that my timing should be 8 degrees btdc. Do i set this with the car at idle, or do I have the RPMs up?

Send an email to Lars Grimsrud at V8fastcars@msn.com. Request his paper on setting engine timing. It's very thorough and informative. You'll see why 8 BTC is not enough initial advance for most Chevy V8's. Lars is very knowledgeable and willing to share his expertise.
