Default 71 won't start

Installed rebuilt engine and getting ready to start it. Hooked up battery, lights light, horn blows, turn signals work, brake lights work, but the engine won't turn over. Can hear clicking, so something is working.

I know some people have said that they have a purple wire and a yellow wire that goes to the starter. I still have the original cloth covered wires, so I took a little insulation off and they are all red wires.

Looking at the lugs that mount to the starter, I'm guessing that the heavier of the smaller wires go to the "B" post and the smaller one goes to the other post.

That's about the only wires I disconnected when I removed the engine.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Russ

The heavier of the two wires goes to the "S" terminal which is the one next to the block. Then the other goes to the "R" terminal which is for sending 12 volts to your coil while cranking.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I have them hooked up wrong!

I'll switch them tomorrow and try again.

Thanks again for the help
