700r4 from a '92?
I've been doing a lot of reading here about the 700r4 swap. I now have a th350 in my '76. Seems the ones from '88 to '92 are the desirable ones. I have an opportunity to get one from a '92 Camaro. What will I need to do to make it work in the swap? Anything extra vs one from 88 - 91?
thanks
Barry

Have you read the thread below yet?

Take notes as you read any threads/make a list of parts that you will need so you can order them before the swap takes place.

Yes, read it a number of times. It still doesn't answer my question tho. It, or another one I read stated that if you get a 700r4 '92 or later a number of additional things would have to be done to it that would not have to be done to earlier ones. I would like to know if the 700r from a '92 Camaro will require significant additional changes before install that would not be required on an '88 - 91?

I recently had a failure of my 1988 TH700R4 because the input shaft to output shaft seal broke which dropped my oil pressure to near zero. Use the later VITON seal that came in the 4L-60E transmissions.

that was my thread that "doorgunner" quoted.
karnt help with the best year to choose, as i went with a local box out of our local built cars.
but i think mine was a '92 box, but again ours were slightly different to yours.
from what i have read, it's the early '88-'91 boxes were weaker, and the later boxes have the strengthened internals.

riverracer, a great writeup by the way!! I have read it over a number of times. Here is what I read somewhere in another thread related to the 700r4 and wanted to verify it before I make the commitment to the one I found.
The early 700r4's up to '88 were weak and susceptible to failure. '88-'91 were much improved and stronger and thus were more desirable. Then in '92 or '93 they became computer controlled and thus had to have some significant changes made to them in order to be usable in our C3's.
Is this information correct or faulty? The one I'm looking at is a '92 out of a Camaro that has been rebuilt to 500 hp so I'm thinking any changes that needed to be made would have been done during the rebuild.
Thanks
Barry
