Default Another 700r4 question,s

I have read the driveshaft has to be cut 2.5 inches and somewhere else 3 .0 inches- which is coorect.
Also I have also heard the driveshaft must be 26.5 in long- is that correct?
And my last question- I have heard an 82 driveshaft will fit perfect with no cutting in a 700r?
Thanks guys. Richard

The drive shaft has to be cut 1-1/2" if swapping out a TH400, 3" if swapping out a TH350, and the its the same length if an '82 drive shaft is used because the '82's all came with TH700R4's.

Agree!

I just put mine together. I replaced the TH350 with the 709r4.
The drive shaft was cut 3" and balanced.
On the crossmember you

need to grind the welds off the parking brake cable pully bracket, knock it loose, clean up the welds, move the bracket over 3/4" to the driver side. I installed to crossmember with 2 bolts to make sure the bracket cleared in the tunnel and was at the correct angle. Marked where it needs to be with tape and had it welded.
This needs to be done as the shortening of 3" puts the U-joint into the cable at the stock locatio.

The tung mount that bolts to the front of the crossmember also needs to be modified. The holes for the Trans mount need to move back approx 1.5" or so. Don't recall the exact measurement. This also required stepping the tung further back so the mount sits squarely.
I don't have a photo.
Just a little welding is much cheaper than purchasing a $400 crossmemer.
When complete it looks factory.

i didn't have to move my park brake bracket, had 5/16" clearance.
