Default 68 Vette steering column replacement

I have a 68 with manual steering and a straight steering column. I would like to put in a tilt column. I know Ididit and Flaming River have easy replacement columns, but for $700. I can get a cheaper one for about $200, but it does not have the 1" 48 spline shaft, it has a 1" DD end. Is there a way to adapt the cheaper one to my steering box? They have them in 28, 30 and 32 inch length. Anyone use anything like this? Thanks

Is there another column I can use from another vette with tilt and no ignition key in the column?

The 69 and up columns all have the ignition lock in the column. I put an Ididit tilt in the 68 and am vey happy with it. The only downside is if you ever decide to go Borgeson power steering, the Ididit is not collapsable and cannot be shortened the required 2". It can be shortened by having it re-machined .

opps missed the "68" 1 year specific with no key on column. that's a bit tougher.

If you are holding the cost down....check the "Parts for Sale Forum".......or......pay a little extra and buy a column from a Forum vendor........or Summit or Jegs etc. Buy a TILT ONLY (non-telescope) column that is unpainted with the correct splines.
