Default Best shifter opinions?

I have a 77. Looking for an after market shifter like hurst. Can anyone tell me the actual benefits of these shifters and a good one for a 77?

I have a Hurst on my 76. It was done by the PO so I can't weigh in on how it compares to the original.
I can say I do like the shifter and have no issues with it.

The stock shifters bolt to the frame where the Hurst bolts to the side of the trans. When you have some decent HP the torque of the motor twists everything and the shifter can sometimes bind. Also the Hurst is spring loaded so the shift from 2 to 3 you pretty much just push it up. It shift much better than the stock one. Plus your stock one is probably worn some which makes it sloppy. When I had the Muncie in mine it was a huge improvement over the stock one. IMO yes it is a much better shifter.

Have you considered a Longs Shifter? I replaced the Hurst on my 5 speed with one, and it was a huge improvement. Of course there is a difference in price though.

^^ Damn what does that run? ^^

I installed a brand new stock shifter on my new engine and trans and removed it as soon as I tried it.

Just can't stand how sloppy it is. Hurst is in it now and it feels soo much better.

The Long shifter is a GREAT piece. The Hurst is good..used them for years....but once you drive something with a Long you'll throw rocks at the Hurst.

The Long shifter looks a lot like the Hurst "Super Shifter", which is somewhat different than Hurst's street model, the "Competition Plus". My point is, will the Long shifter fit without extensive modifications to the car's transmission tunnel?

On at least the Richmond 5 speed, it required no modifications at all. Was a simple swap from the Hurst to the Longs.

Can't speak for the 4 speed, but I doubt it's much different. The shifter body is about the same size as the Hursts.

Long shifters may resemble a Hurst but they are rail shifters, watch one work and you will see the difference as the rails slide forward & backwards, I have the "cup" shifter on a T-101 in my vintage race, shift a Long once and you won`t throw rocks at Hurst you will throw it in the garbage.
