am i over thinking it
years ago I took out both back axles and outer u-joints with brake torqueing it somewhere between 2500 and 3000 and jumping on it .now I am in the process of putting in new trailing arms with all hub parts and bushings . all new heavy duty u-joints from trans back and having the rear end checked out , and new rear composite spring. back then I had a holley 750 double pumper , performer intake and 308 gear . now I have a quick fuel 680vs , torker2 intake and 3.70 gear . is there any reason I cant get on it or should I still worry about it coming apart? and why do you think it came apart in the first place ? one of my friends had either a 66 or 67 with a 396 with stick and he blew his out but only one side back then.

I have no idea what this means, but they probably broke because they were worn out or close to being worn out.
Get on it how?
is there any reason I cant get on it or should I still worry about it coming apart?

I hammer on mine all the time. The key is maintenance. The harder you are on stuff the more it needs to be checked for wear and tear. You catch it early hopefully and prevent failure.
That being said there is no problem with some insurance. Take a look at the drive shaft and half shaft loops.

I assume you're putting Spicer solid u joints in. I race mine with drag radials on it, using a 3,000 stall speed converter. It withstands that abuse with no problems so far. With street tires you shouldn't be concerned.

all the u joints were fairly new , maybe a few thousand on them . maybe I was told wrong when I had the stall converter put in . the guy said you could stand on the brakes and rev the engine up to around 2500 then foot off , pedal down and go . was this wrong ?

That's how you get the engine up into it's powerband making more horsepower. The gears in the diff are in contact so that reduces shock loads. Now it depends on how much horsepower you have and the traction of the tires, which relieve stress on parts if they break loose.

can tell you one thing I did this 25 years ago and its a sound you will never forget . I was getting on a four lane hwy and there was no one in sight so I had just had the converter put in and figured lets see what it will do . after what sounded like a small explosion all it had was enough to roll to the other side of the hwy then it was a 2 mile walk to a store to call a tow truck ..
