Yes, I have replaced them twice in my '82 and had no problem after I made a tool to allow me to press them in.

The Aluminum Strut Rods in 82 only came on a few of the 82's. Most used the Steel ones. I have only seen one 82 with the Aluminum Struts. Does Your 82 have a locking T-Top setup that is Factory and not Aftermarket ? The 82 with the Aluminum had them as well. I assume Your car is a very late production 82. I'd try VB&P for the Bushings.

I believe it does, or part of it anyway. On the bottom of the t top next to the release there is a piece that looks like a lock would go on.

Bairs said that the replacement bushing with the steel outer shell would not work on the aluminum strut rods.

Since the Aluminum Strut Rods were a pre production of what was to be used on the all new C4 Corvette I might think that it might use the same Bushings as the C4 ? Or use a Poly Bushing, of which there are many sizes, and they are easy to machine if You need something special.

I thought all of the 1980 thru 1982's came with the aluminum strut rods to go along with the aluminum "bat wings" and the aluminum rear end housing. I have seen a dozen 1980 thru 1982's and they all had aluminum strut rods.

The set I have came with what appear to be new steel shell rubber bushings.
I think only the 82 with FE7 suspension came with the aluminum strut rods.

Yes a rubber bushing with an outer steel shell pressed into the aluminum strut rod.
If I remember correctly the bushing is 1 3/8 OD.

The bushings came installed in the aluminum strut rods when I bought them.
I assumed that they were a stock replacement 1 3/8 rubber bushing.
I just looked on ebay and there is a single side for sale with worn out bushings that appear to not have an outer steel shell.
It has the same part number as mine, down to the last 2 numbers ground off one of them.
I am guessing that maybe they came from the factory without a steel shell to avoid galvanic corrosion between the steel and aluminum.
Replacing the bushing without a shell would be difficult without special tooling.
Whether it is factory correct or not mine have an outer steel shell on the bushing.
