Default Replacing the Quadrajet carb with a Edelbrock carb

I know this has been ask before, but I can't quite find my answer. I have a 1970 C3 small block 350 Vette. I attempting to replace my Rochester Quadrajet carb with a Edelbrock 1405 carb. Also was upgraded with a electic chock. The intake manifold was replaced with a edelbrock 5001 torker 2. Problem is room under the hood. The air cleaner is touching the hood. Edelbrock told me it would fit, but I can not find a air cleaner that would not touch the hood (I have a regular small block hood). I have tried Edelbrock air cleaner, and a Trans-Dapt 2148 air cleaner. Neither worked. I'm afraid this combo, new carb and intake will not work. I think my only option is to buy or fix my old Quadrajet and go back to the old intake and air cleaner. Any suggestions that don't cost a lot? Scott

It's not the carb height that's your problem, as most carbs are within an eight of an inch, or so, in overall height. It's the manifold....the Torkers are somewhat taller than the OE manifold.

Isn't the Torker for a square bore. I show it's 4.08" tall.

The 2601 Air gap is 3.72.

For street use with an automatic and tall gears you'd be much better off using a 180 degree manifold that has longer runners that produce torque down low where you need it the most. The Torquer is designed for 2200+ rpm use using a longer duration camshaft and lower gears whereas you need a 500 rpm and up manifold.

The edelbrock Performer RPM with a drop base air cleaner should work...does on the 78 C3. FWIW...the Holley 4175 650 CFM vacuum secondary Q jet replacement carb is a great replacement for the Qjet...have one on my 78 L-82 since 1985 and really like the performance, reliability, and ease of rebuilding and adjusting.

Replaced my Qjet with Edelbrock 1406 years ago. Using Edelbrock performer vortec intake with drop down air cleaner and have no clearance issues.

Their is 3 measurements, (A)front, (B)back, and (CH)carb pad.
For the Torker, A=3.53, B=4.63, and CH=4.08
For 2601 Air Gap, A=3.72, B=4.92, and CH=4.32

Just need about 1/3 more clearance. So far I haven't found a intake with less measurements. Still looking. Thanks.

The 1406 is just like mine. It has almost the same look (I put the electric choke on the 1405 making it almost the same.). I know having the electric choke, some air cleaners won't fit.

After buying many parts that don't work, I am a little hesitant to buy another air cleaner. Can you tell me more on the one you bought. I believe so far this might be the best solution, and the lowest cost. Thanks.

For that Holley 4175, could I still use the my old intake manifold without a spacer?

My 4175 is sitting on my OEM stock L-82 aluminum intake....on both the original L-82 and on the rebuilt L-82 355 with AFR heads. Works great in both applications with a primary jet change for the 355 with AFR heads and roller cam

I used this Edelbrock air cleaner with one of these drop basis I can't remember which one but I can measure it tomorrow and let you know which one. I had to put a small ding on the drop base to clear the electric choke on Edelbrock 1406 carburetor. It fits perfect.
the Edelbrock carburetor is sitting on this intake on 383 stroker engine. With 1980 stock hood.
