Default Going Roller Cammin'

Guys...going roller with my new setup (Heads and Cam). Will the Trick Flow Heads with Dual Valve Springs (up to .600" lift) handle a hydraulic roller cam with max lift of .528"???? I ask because of the aggressive lift profile of roller cams.

Roller introduces "new" issues. Was originally considering the standard hydraulic CompCam 270 Magnum (224/224 deg. duration), but am wondering about the roller profile I should choose. Any advice on rollers similar to the 270 Magnum??

Just check the spring rates needed for the cam and cross reference that to the trick flow springs. My TFS heads are rated to .540 lift and the spring rates where above the cams requirements. I am actually running .560 lift on the exhaust side with no issues.

If that's the case, I could use the same heads/springs?? The 1.47 single springs..right?? Are you running a roller cam??

Crane Roller, just intalled last weekend. My lift is .509 and .528 with 1.5 rockers but I am using 1.6 so lift is about .540 and .560 corrected. The duration is 220 and 230. I just compared the spring rates need for open and close to what TFS has posted on their website and they where about 10 lbs over for both.

Just as important as the max lift of a spring is the open and closed pressures of the spring. I would look up the recommended spring for your cam and check the open/closed pressures. Then find the open/closed pressures for the TFS springs. If they are within 10% of the recommended spring, you shold be OK, otherwise I'd recommend swapping them out.

Just what I did. :) Both the spring rates where a little over the cam requirements so I feel safe.

MY TFS heads have been set up for retro fit HR. I recomend that you buy the whole kit at one time. My cam 218-224 is all about tq. W/1.6 rr I have .530/.539 lift. I am very happy so far. A bigger cam for me would be a waste. I hardly use what I have. At 3500 rpm things are happening very fast.

I was thinking the same way until I noticed I was starting to shift at 4000. I took my new set up to 5500 with the 600 and it was moving. I should be able to wind it up after tuning now that I have my headers and O2 sensor intalled. Going to the track tonight if I can get the dp to behave. I drove it with just the primaries and it was awesome, way better than the 600 with all 4 barrels going.

your open pressure is what you need to know on a roller cam double check to see if its ok .
