Default Moog 5758 vs Moog 5762

I bought Moog 5762 for my 77. It had AC at the time but I completely removed it. Am I going to have a problem with height with the 5762? The specs on them vs the 5758 (for non ac cars) is VERY similar. I don't want my car all jacked up in the front but I don't want it lowered either. I want a relatively stock ride height. According to Moog... either set of springs is considered stock. The specs on both springs is identical except for the FREE HEIGHT. Moog 5758 has a 12.94 Free Height and Moog 5762 has a 13.13 Free Height. That's less than 1/4" difference in height. Has anybody installed 5762's in a non-AC SBC car?

The longer springs are only 3/16" longer which would give you a ride height difference of perhaps 3/8" but after several weeks of driving they would settle some. I would go ahead and use them because the difference between the two is so slight.

The freestanding height has little to do with the height of the vehicle when installed.
The Moog springs are all too much out of the box....and most have cut a coil off to get the correct height.

I installed the 5758s on my 71, no ac, alum heads, alum intake 4 spd. Lighter than your car, and it sits about a inch too high. But I have a clearance problem with a deep 7 qt oil pan and headers.

I feel cutting a half coil will get 'er down, but its ok for now!

Now, you could go with a F41 spring, that WILL get you lower, at the expense of much stiffer ride

Just posted over in your other thread on installing the springs. I bought the 5758's this past summer and the car sat an easy 2" higher than stock. Had to remove and cut one full coil. Car now sits great, though it is lower than stock.

My intent is a stock appearing ride. Now I don't know what to do. I don't want to go through the entire process of putting the entire front end together and dropping it off the jack stands only to find the front jacked up like an off road vehicle. I specifically looked for stock replacement springs and at the time it was suggested to go with Moog. I have no problem cutting the 5762's down but I don't want my car to sit low in the front. I prefer it to be standard height or even a little on the higher side. I have never been into that low slung look. I want my car to look more like a street/drag strip 70's... early 80's car. Its going to have side headers and side pipes on it. Here is a pic of my car with the stock springs when I bought it 7 months ago. I would be ok if it was an inch higher in the front but I don't want it to look jacked up in the front like a gasser.

Are your current springs shot? Because from here stance looks real good.

There is no good way to tell the way it is going to sit......
If it was me...I would cut one coil off and have at it, knowing what I know.

Remember...it has to be driven and settled in after installation to know for sure....

If you are happy with the way your car sits now just use the original springs....

I put the Moog 5762's in my 79 (with a stock SBC) a few months ago when I rebuilt the front suspension. I have all the AC equipment removed also, but went with the 'AC spring' anyway. I think the stance looks pretty close to stock (definitely not a 'lifted' look), but I haven't measured it. I installed the springs 'as-is' (no coils removed).

To be honest, I think either spring will probably give you the stock stance you are looking for. I know you don't want to remove/re-install the springs more than once, but if you cut a coil now and it sits too low, you'll be removing/re-installing AND buying new springs. Just my opinion...

And logic dictates that if he puts them in and it is too high....he will be pulling them out and cutting them....
Quite the pickle.....
Like I say....from what I know....they would go under the knife.....

I am not that picky regarding ride height but I know many are. I have a buddy who worked on the leaf springs on his Ford Excursion for weeks because it was 1/4" off from where he wanted it. I couldn't even see what he was talking about.

I can tell you that when these cars are nose high they hunt horribly around the highway at speeds in excess of 110 mph.......you may never see that....but it is truth.

Here are some before and after shots of the car I speak of.....
To me....it changed the whole car. Looks and handling....improved.
I am going the extra to show you as I believe it will make you enjoy your Vette in the long run.....
I would go the extra mile.

I bought moog springs 2 years ago. Free standing the moog spring is 4 inches shorter than the stock GM spring. Once installed they fit and work perfect. I think I was 3/8 of an inch higher. Setting the spring correctly in the spring pocket is a must or the car will sit a full inch higher. Ask me how I know

Beautiful car. I think it looks great before and after so obviously height doesn't make that much of a difference to me. Thanks for the pics. Your car is beautiful.

Thanks...but it has been gone for a while......
It was completely nut and bolt restored.....
And the shop left the height the way it was

Have fun with your Yellow Zonker!

Tint can be any setting, colorblind is the explanation, only way I can tell is from trim tag.
