Default Lets shut off the heater blower

From what I have read on the forum, when the A/C is turned off, the blower keeps running on low speed.

I have done a A/C delete, everything works perfect, wow is it cleaned up under the dash. However, my Blower keeps running on lowm all the time the key is on. This is just needed wear and tear on the blower motor.

Has anyone figured how to make the blower stop running when you set all the HVAC controls to OFF.

I am sure its been covered here at some time, but with my very slow 24.4K dial up, I just cant do extensive searches.

Thank You

IIRC: remove the tan wire from the HVAC control plug.

On my '78 I pull the plug off the top of the fan box under the hood.
Pass side near the hood latch. 3/4 wires if memory serves, in a "L" configuration. Pull it straight up. No-Mo-Fan

Thanks Mike; I will try that tomorrow. The car is a 1979. Mike, your referring to the plug on the control head that the speed switch is plugged into....correct ?

Dial up? Have I slipped into a time warp and it is suddenly 1995 again?

if your blower fan never turns off your BCM (Blower Control Module) may be faulty.

In a '79 the blower runs on low speed with the key in the "run" position.

This was a feature called "constant ventilation" by GM. I'm not exactly sure when or where it began within the divisions but by the late 70s it was ubiquitous.

8valve, Where is "here"?

SwampeastMike is right. No "off" for the fan. Just "low".

I run a 1/2 turn stainless ball valve in the top heater hose and pull the plug that connects the fan (pic above). Saves me some grief in the summer.

I have the heater hoses removed from my car and use the always on low speed to help circulate outside air at my feet to help cool that area.

I too recall this topic being covered.
I think poster indicated GM had the fan run on low continuously
to prevent the build up of hydrocarbons inside the cabin.
It is not in my 68.
The fan can be switched off.
The Astro Ventilation idea was supposed to vent the cabin.
Maybe this was a continuation of that idea.

That what I do as well. just pull the plug harness out of the relay...no more blower fan.

When I got my 77 I opened the relay (a few bent tabs) on the firewall and put something non conductive between the 2 contacts that kept it on all the time. It's now 3 speeds but that's fine.

In my experience it is the lack of use that generally causes the death of high-quality permanently lubricated motors of the sort used for blowers in vehicles.

If you have a problem with excessive cabin heat in a '79 you might have a problem similar to mine.

The control cable for temperature runs to a lever installed behind the glove box. When fully at the "cold" position an arm on the lever presses a vacuum switch that opens to in turn open a water shut-off valve installed in a heater hose in the engine compartment on the passenger side that leads to the heater core.

At some point in production, they started using a different version of the shut-off switch that instead of a good-sized "button" like head (contacted by the lever) used a small diameter, medium-soft plastic extension on the switch shaft. If the lever isn't perfectly lined up (mine isn't) with the switch shaft extension it will eventually bend and/or fall off. Once this happens the switch will no longer be operated, the hot water shut-off valve will never close and you will roast in the cabin. I fabricated a new shaft extension using a child's fat pencil and epoxy and to my surprise everything worked perfectly and I no longer get excessive heat in the cabin.
