Default Transmission looks crooked in tunnel

Help

I am finishing up a 700r4 install, removed a TH 400 has a stock L48
About to install the drive shaft and the yoke looks like it comes very close to hitting the tunnel. This looks odd to me. Is this the way it is supposed to look? I checked the motor mounts they don't look broken.
I can pry the trans over some to gain some room.
Real issue is that new yoke is too small for the u joint.

Yoke looks to be too far right

Once you set cross member in you will be fine it should make you push the trans over about an inch ..

When I installed a 700r4 in mine a couple months ago I had the exact same problem. It still rubbed even after installing the cross member from Bowtie overdrives. I tried loosening everything I could to rotate the engine but couldn't get it straight enough.

Because the 700r4 is longer it extends further back into the tunnel where its narrower and you don't have as much clearance if the drive train isn't perfectly straight.

I ended up notching the tunnel for clearance.

Hi, Cobrachuck,

Which car is this in?

I take it that the driveshaft still has the old u-joint in it from the TH400. Measure the u-joint for the TH400 and the 700R4. Probably different sizes. Check with others that have done the swap; there maybe a u-joint made that is a 'split' size - one size for the driveshaft side and another for the tranny side (1310 vs 1350?). That would be the easiest fix.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, I restored this car last years, it sat 19 yrs.
75 Coupe all stock tuned & 2 1/2" x pipe. Trying to increase the car's fun factor.
TH 400 has a different yoke TH 350 is same, so I bought a new one. Calling the drive shaft people tomorrow am, maybe they have an answer.

700r4 yoke is smaller than a t400 yoke.
same bearing cap diameters, different widths across.

you use a "1310 to 1330 Series Combination Universal Joint"

eg: DANA SPICER 5-134X

The th400 and the 700r4 are very close in size it all comes down to the th400 tail shaft which are 4" , 9" or 13 inches. A corvette uses the 4 inch and that makes the th400 slightly longer then the 700R4 .

He should be able to push the trans to the left slightly and correct the off set and as far as a yoke he needs a th350 yoke that has straps on it to connect and disconnect the U-Joint allowing the drive shaft the ability to be installed and removed.

Most th350 yokes are solid and you use a hammer and a vice to install the u-joint Make sure your new yoke has straps ,,

LIKE this one BUT not this one cause ohhhh my god its pricy LMAO

mine sits a fair way to the right as well
i used the tail housing from a 80's Caprice, made trans within 5/16" of T400 mounting holes.

my yoke cleared the park brake cable without moving bracket

almost touches the side, about 3/16" clear, have insulation foil stuck on tunnel, no rubbing so far

yoke i bought thru BTO on driveshaft b4 installation

my swap in a '72

River, yours looks similar to mine, very close on the right side as well. I wish I would have looked deeper into a different tail housing.
Will keep you posted.

This is a 4L80e . Big 3 or 3.5 drive shaft. I forget exactly what size ill measure it later but a lot bigger then stock with a set of 1350 Yokes. Yes it favors the right side all transmissions do in our cars BUT when I first put it in the tail shaft hit the right side until I installed the cross member.
