By the way Lars , about 6 years ago you rebuilt my original Q-jet for my 74 LS4. It still works perfectly!

Do yourself a big favor and put some duct tape or something over the carb holes in the manifold while you work on the engine.
Dropping a nut or bolt down the intake is not a fun thing to do, nor is pulling the engine apart just after you get it dropped into place in your car.

My ex did that to me awhile back. I had to pull the head on my Pontiac, only to find the remains of a crank-key sitting on top of the #8 piston. It took some time for it to "dance" back there. Those old 389s were heavy and strong, but I did loose compression over time (the ring lands were squished).
He was also careless with a Toyota truck rebuild I did; he dropped an air cleaner nut and tried to hide it.
