Default excess header heat on 69 big block at floorboards

This is under my floorboards just at the header to exhaust connection. It appears to be factory based on location of bolts but seems to be made of plastic. Seems strange to use plastic as heat protection?? Anyway, it is getting burned by the headers which I do plan on removing at some stage. However, in the mean time, does anyone else have this problem and does an aftermarket solution exist. I assume I will have to fabricate some type of metal heat protection. Also, when I do get around to putting factory manifolds back on, does anyone know where I can get this plastic looking part? I don't see any of the suppliers listing it.

Thanks, Pete

The plastic just held the isolation in place. You can get a replacement from any of the corvette vendors.

The headers should not be that close.

Is that a big block car you have in the picture?? I am surprised a set of non corvette big block headers would actually fit into the car being how little wiggle room there us under the hood.

Again, thanks so much guys, a picture is so often worth a thousand words.

Yea, those would not be correct. The exist should be close to the cross-member holes.

Yours look like it may run underneath the cross-member.

Seems to me that you get two options - headers that hang too low, create ground clearance issues but don't 'cook' the floorpan and your feet (i.e Hookers) ~ or ~ headers that 'cook' the floorpan and your feet but have reasonable ground clearance (perhaps Hedman)
