Haynes vs. Chilton Engine Oil Levels - 1969-350
Hi Everyone,
I bought 2 manuals, Chilton and Haynes. In Chilton's manual on page 1-66 it says a 1969 350 needs 4 quarts. In Haynes' manual on page 1-1 (Chapter 1 start) it says a small block is 5 quarts.
Who's the winner here?
P.S. Both manuals have been invaluable in not bothering all of you all of the time.
Thanks

Your small block should take 5 quarts with a new filter. Those manuals are good for quick reference. You should really invest in these if you don't already have them.

4 quarts if you don't change the filter; 5 quarts if you do. Read the detail in these manuals carefully and they should agree with this.
Haynes was the maker of the manuals for Chevrolet. Chilton's manual was meant for garage mechanics, as that manual has info for all American cars for that model year.

also depends on if you use the standard short filter or use the tall truck filter like many folks do...but 5 w/a short filter is the norm.

I threw in a new filter and 5 quarts and it didn't explode.
