Default What's missing? strut rod question

new strut rods, new camber bolts but it looks like there should be another bushing in there to take up the slop. I've looked in catalogs but dont see anything.

You need these washers on the end under the diff. Without them the rods wont stay in place.

Not sure you need washers on those strut rods since the sleeves have a serrated edge that may hold them in place...the stock struts have washers on each side of the bushing, though but those are not stock strut rod bushings. As for those bolts: They appear to be the wrong size for that sleeve. I just checked my stock strut rods in the garage, off the car now for years (I have competition adjustable heim jointed strut rods from Mid America...no bushings) and the stock bolt fits the sleeve in the bushing with zero play....

Those look totally different than mine. Mine are tight on the bolts and they are smooth on the ends.

I bought the strut rods and the camber bolts from Duntov all on the same order. That's what they sent me.
It wouldn't take much for me to make a bushing (maybe stainless) to fill the gap.

I can tell you from experience the Duntov strut rods are junk. After a few years and only a few thousand miles the bushings were dust.

I've talked to a forum member here who isn't impressed with Duntov, unfortunately after I received my parts. There wont be any further orders from me. I have an extra set of bushings for these rods (long story)

As for the bolt slop, I think the bolt diameter changed at some point. You may have a mix of old and new bushings/bolts.

The special washers take up the slop between the bushing inner diameter and the bolt. The washers are used with the small lip of the washer pointed into the bushing on each side.

He is right. Without the bushing retainers it isn't going to work. Check the assembly manual. You can probably re-use your old ones but they are a requirement on a stock assembly.

so the "strut rod caps" in the above picture (which I now have) are only part of what I need?

ok I put in those rod end caps and they still have a bunch of slop. I'm gonna try machining a bushing for these and see how it turns out.

The bore on the bushing measured out to .627 and the bolt was .500 even so I got some Acetal plastic stock which is supposed to be for high load mechanical applications and machined some bushings for a snug fit. I now have zero slop. Hopefully they will work well with the strut rod caps to keep the rods where they should be.

The bolt that goes thru the cross member bracket under the differential is supposed to be 1/2" (.500) and the one that goes thru the link to the trailing arms is 5/8" (.6.25).
At least that is what fits my setup under my 75.
Not sure why you have a 1/2" adjuster bolt ....?????

Inquiring minds want to know.......

REVISED with corrected sizes.

All the ones I have seen are 1/2", the ends of the inner bushing sleeve lock into the special washers and are held in place by the clamping force of the bolt. If the bolt is a little loose fitting in the bushing it's no problem, it wont move around when clamped in place.
