Brake lines very close to being rounded off
I'm working on replacing the calipers on my 73, and I'm working on the front ones now. I'm having a lot of trouble getting the brake line disconnected where the rubber line meets the steel line (I'm assuming this is where I'm supposed to disconnect the brake line, as the connection point at the caliper isn't able to freely spin). No matter what I do they just won't loosen.
Can anyone lend me some advice on how I should proceed? I'm worried they've already been rounded too much to be salvageable. If that's the case, what should I do?

Hi again.
The best repair is to take a vise grip and loosen the hard line and order new ones or if you are feeling lucky and want to delay doing that for a while remove the caliper and turn it loose where the caliper meets the rubber line.

I have a really small pipe wrench, overall is probably less than 9 inches long. Works great for rounded fittings like brakes, fuel lines, aspirator valves, bleeders. I know it isn't "proper", but works better for me than vise grips.

Burning Brakes
If you are just looking to replace the caliper......disconnect caliper and loosen rubber hose at caliper. Now just spin the caliper off the hose. It can get alittle tricky threading the caliper back on the hose. As they are a bit heavy. Do not forget the copper washer.........Just finished doing all four calipers.

One of the first things ANYONE who owns a vette should learn how to do is make up their own brake line ( since it's probably the most common issue with our cars). All you need is a tubing cutter and a double flair tool. Once you get the rounded line off the caliper or connection, go to the parts store and get a short piece of brake line. Come back to the bad line, cut off whatever needs to be cut, and remove one of the fittings from the new line. Place it on the old one and double flair ( that is the important part) the end of the old line and like magic, you have a new fitting on your old line. And put a little neveer sieze on the fitting for the next time you need to remove it. Good luck.
