Default Off idle stumble.

1974 model year
350 sbc
Edelbrock 1407 carb (600)
Edelbrock performer intake
Hei converted
Otherwise stock

When taking off from idle car will stumble and want to die and has on occasion. I am getting some back fireing through carb. Once I'm over 2000 rpm it evens out.

Idle set at 900 rpm

Initial timing set 8*

Here is what I've tried

-adjusted choke *like a million times
- new accelerator pump * used different adjustments.
-Adjusted idle screw
- I set idle very high and got the same issue.

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked your spark plugs ,they could be fouled up due to all the fuel adjustments.

If this is it, I'm going to freak out. It's been an issue this whole week. I'll change them later today.

does it start and idle fine?

can you visually see fuel squirting in the carb from the accelerator pump?

sounds like a lean issue, when you pull the plugs let us know how they look, light tan, white, fouled, etc.

do you have a vacuum guage and can you do some vacuum tests, idle, blip the throttle, etc. and post #'s?

Are you sure the plug wires are routed correctly? A pair of crossed wires cause this issue.
