Default 69 & 79 seat rails

will 1979 seat rails bolt to 1969 floor with no modifications. Or what mod is needed. I have a 69 with seats in it that are good and I do not want to disassemble them. I have a pair of 1990 miata seats. I have a pair of 1979 c3 rails. If I mount the 79 c3 rails to the miata seats will they bolt up using same bolt holes.

I can't answer your question directly except to say there were variations between the 1969 seats and the 1979 seats.

However since you have the '79 seat rails, why not remove one of your seats and get your own answer? If they do fit, install both rails and measure the separation between them and you will know exactly where to attach them to the bottom of your Miata seats.

Good luck... GUSTO

Hi m,
I'm pretty sure even the earlier seat rail tracks varied by the 72 model year when the seat belt retractor was moved under the seat. The mounting point for the track moved further back… closer to the seat bulkhead to accommodate this.
So I guess it's unlikely that the even 'later' tracks would bolt right to the 69 track bolt locations on the underbody.
?
Regards,
Alan

not sure about 79 rails but to adapt the 80 seats rails you need to remove the rear bracket and install the 68 - 72 rear bracket. I just completed this update on my 70.

I just checked and the replacement seat track mounting plates that are attached to the tracks are the same all the way up to 1978.

SO..I would simply remove one seat and test your 1979 tracks.

I removed seat and tried 79 rails. no go. I guess I could just use the 69 seat rails.

79 track too short ? if I am not mistaken the 79 rear mounting foot, has 1 Rivet toward the front, and 1 large rivet towards the rear. that rear foot also points towards the front.
if so drill the front rivet out, rotate the mounting foot app. 180 degrees,
tack weld the back if you want.
and the holes should line up. check the measurements, it worked for me in my 69.
but I am not positive of the later model year tracks I used.

I like those seats, what did they come out of? I've got a 68 vert with no head rests and I'm thinking of swapping out seats (fearing whiplash).

I think these were about 79 C3 seats its been a awhile can't remember the exact year.
they fit very nice and are much more comfortable, than the originals.
kept the late tracks and modified the rear mount, by rotating the rear foot,
to match the 69 body mounting holes.

Question for 69 vette - Do you have shoulder belts for these seats? If so how is the routing. I have the same seats in a 70 but do not have shoulder belts

No shoulder belts, could not figure a clean way to install with these seats.
I just plan not to crash !
