Best sounding mufflers...
Hey guys and gals,
I have a 1976 L82 corvette with a edelbrock performance intake manifold, and Flowtech headers. I am also running a true dual set up, so I will end up needing two mufflers.
Which mufflers would you recommend that will sound amazing with my current set up as well as increase my performance (more CFM maybe).
Thanks!

That is a tough question since everyone's engine is different and personal preference about sound varies....You will hear many different recommendations but I personally like Magnaflows...straight through design, good flow, not obnoxious at idle and part throttle cruise, but authoritative sound on acceleration. I know others with magnaflows on their C3's that like them but I do not have them on my 78 L-82 355. I have a cat back magnaflow system on my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix DD which I like and a magnaflow X pipe with high flow cats, magnaflow cat back mufflers and BBK shorty headers on my 94 Mustang GT that sounds terrific at WOT but not a C3. I use Monza Turbos on my 78 which I love but are no longer being made...........

I have Dynomax Super Turbos on my 68 big block. Pretty subtle when cruising, with no drone. They give a nice American muscle car sound when you jump on it.

I have dual chambered on my car.. came from Willcox.. Allens is the manufacturer, we just wholesale it..
The bottom Vid is my 72 numbers car... AT SB with a healthy cam. The lower is my favorite and is the stage II system. We sell more of this system than any other system, but it's an easy sell because I have a car there so the customers and listen to it and know what they are getting. The humpty camshaft doesn't hurt but it is still an awesome sounding system on a stock cam car.
Here are the two systems.
Small block 72 with chambered.

Hefty small block with Stage II

I had the H pipe on my C5 cut out for true dual exhaust. My only goal was sound.
Everybody said it was a mistake. They were right; I lost power, not worth it.
So now I'm having the entire section of the exhaust replaced with the H pipe intact.
I thought it sounds stupid not to get rid of it, I was wrong. The cost to cut it out, now the cost to get correct pipes again and labor remove it and put the proper pipes back to install it.
I don't know if anybody else has made this mistake, but for you guys that are considering it, DONT!!

You'll never get a universal answer because everyones opinion is different. I personally like the dynomax VTs I have on my vette and the pypes violators on my truck.

Had Flow Pros on my 82 383 motor for ages and replaced them just because they were old. Went with Hooker Max Flows, nice sound and they don't drone.
Here is something I found a long time ago to help with my choice.

been many yrs since I owned a C3 but those sound tone wise awfully similar to the stockers which I liked, only louder. Nice...kinda makes it sound more radical than what it is without being obnoxious
OP sound clips may or may not be accurate. If you try your regional section try and find some C3s to listen to in person even better
Know that compression cam profile can change the sound too. Dont worry about power just a sound you like not worth losing sleep over

I was very pleased with the Hooker max flows I had on my 71. The Aerochambers are good too.
Here is an old video when the car still ran.

Of the mufflers I've heard *in person*, chambered exhaust (not really a muffler) sounds best if you can get away with the volume. Basically sidepipes without the sidepipe look.
Magnaflow straight-throughs are next, with a good tone at idle, cruise, and WOT with not much drone.
Flowmasters have a distinctive tone that sounds OK if you can get around the fact that the tone is pretty much synonymous with the Fox-body 5.0 Mustang, plus they do drone a bit. Haven't heard the others in person.
Magnaflow straight-throughs are next, with a good tone at idle, cruise, and WOT with not much drone.

Thanks for the mention, guys! Armenag, we would recommend a pair of our oval mufflers for your vette. If you would like some help choosing the correct size, feel free to shoot us a PM!
