Reinstalling original AC on a 71 and running into issues
Hey all ,
I am working on getting my original AC system hooked up and connected on my 71 rebuild.
I have put in a brand new Expansion Valve, dryer and O rings at all connections. The rest of it is all original parts.
I have cleaned and flushed out the condenser, compressor, evaporator and all of the hoses.
I have added the appropriate amounts of oil to each of the systems as specified in the shop manual that I have.
I can draw down to 30 in. Hg with a vacuum pump and as long as I keep the gauges on, the vacuum holds.
Once I take of the gauges, I slowly loose vacuum. Then I used nitrogen to pressure test the system to help pinpoint the leaks. Every Schrader valve is leaking when under pressure.
I bought a Schrader valve tool and tried to remove them to replace them, however, once they are unscrewed, none of them will come out. (even with yanking on them with needle nose pliers.
Does anyone know if these can be removed and replaced?
If so, is there a trick to it?
Or a special tool?
Also I cannot find any documentation that lists which of these Schrader valve locations are supposed to be the High pressure side and/or low pressure side ports.
Any ideas?
Yes, I do plan on keeping this as R12 if I can.
Yes I will have a qualified and licensed professional put the Freon in once I get the system sealed up.
Thanks again everyone.

1 & 3 = low side
2 = high side
Are all three schrader valves not coming out after you unscrew them?
At this point, I would remove the connection block at the compressor and block the openings so nothing can fall down into the hoses when yanking out the old shcrader valves.

High & low are the ones at the compressor. Low is that one coming from the POA valve, high is the one going forward to the condenser.
The fitting on the POA valve is a test port where you normally wouldn't hook gauges.
Sorry, no idea why your valve cores won't come out.

've had the problems of the schraders not coming out once unscrewed. The schraders have failed( no ****!) unscrew them all the way then grab the center pin and pull them out. they may be tough to get but they will come out.
Get replacement AC schraders from Napa. They are not regular tire schraders.
Good idea on removing the component just in case a piece falls inside.
If you can run a clean out tap into the threads before installing new valves
