But I'd also warn you that doing this puts a ton of pressure on the U of the dash pad and they are prone to crack if you are not careful.

Yes indeed it matters... If the car has cruise control, disconnect the speedo cable at the transducer, remove the speedo and tach housing by following the directions on this sheet. This is the easiest way.. (if you don't have cruise control then just follow the same directions, it'll tell you how to get the speedo cable off). Having the housing out of the way makes the cable replacement a snap.

do you have cruise control? If so disconnect the cable there and then slide the gauge housing out, then un-clip it. Sometimes you have to push the cable toward the rear of the car and then push in on the clip to get it to release... they can be a bear though.

I do have cruise. That's what I'm trying to hook up. I have the 2 new cables. Right now I have just one cable from the transmission to the speedo. I can reach under and push the release clip but the cable won't pull off of the speedo !

So after 3 days of messing with and trying to get my speedo cable of of the speedometer and all the advice from dropping the column & removing the housing to just reaching behind it and push the release and pull it off. Well I mentioned it to a mechanic friend who said it's simple...."push in on the cable & then push the release tab" So I reached back under & did just that and yahoo, it came right off. So my point is, with all the advice I got, no one mentioned that you have to push the cable to the speedo then push the release tab, not just push the release & pull on it. I do sincerely thank everyone for the help....In the 12 years that I've been a member of this forum I've received priceless information and I appreciate it and Thanks Again !
