Default What fuel pump can I use to upgrade 1982 sender?

I am doing an LS3 swap and need to upgrade my fuel system. Mine is a 1979 so I know I can drop the 1982 sender right in the tank, but I need a high pressure pump.

Who has done this upgrade and what did you use? Pics appreciated if you have them.

I'm not sure how your system is set up but I know that a lot of 82 guys have swapped a 85-89 fuel pump and have had excellent results.

I switched mine (direct bolt in) on my 82 and immediately saw a difference in engine smoothness and acceleration.

IMO, a fuel pressure upgrade is a must have for anyone with an 82.

I know some have used a Walbro too, but not which one.

I went with this same plan of using the 82 sending unit and an aftermarket pump when I switched to EFI. All said and done it was a waste of time. The sending unit is all made from pot metal and is impossible to weld. I ended up using it for a pattern and made a copy of my own set up all made out of Stainless. Since I did mine there have been some Fuel Pump Kits released on the market some of which are quit clever. If Your use the Search Feature on this sight You will find a number of ways of putting an Electric Pump in the Tank.

Interesting. I also plan to use the 82 sender with a high volume pump for an E85 build. I was considering modifying it for 1/2" lines. Hmm...

Part number is an EP-241. MANY have installed it and it works well.

Is the 1982 pump already set at around 50 pounds, for the fuel injection on it from the factory. How much pressure is required for the LS 3. Gene

I believe the stock 82 pump is something ridiculously low like 15 psi.

The stock 82 pump is all over the place for PSI but really is about 12-14.

The 82 engine is designed to run at 11 and as pumps age it is not uncommon to see pressures dip down to 9ish causing havoc.

The 85-89 pumps are about 15-17 PSI, so even if they age, there is always plenty of umph.

Whatever pump you use, make sure you get the fuel hose rated for submersion in gasoline.

Ask me how I know...
