Issue with shifter
Hey guys. I have a problem with my shifter. Every time I try to shift into either 1st or 3rd gear, I have to push the shifter forward so far the it actually pushes the whole center counsel up before it reaches the gear. Is there anyway to adjust the shifter back? Or is there a way to move the counsel up? Thank you

Same issue on my 76. If you check your AIM, on the shifter support bracket to the frame, you will see some washers which are shims used to move the whole shifter assembly around to give proper clearance to the console insert. So, you can add or subtract washers as needed.
Any option for you is to just use the short throw shift holes in the shifter arms. My current 68 came with the short throw setup and I decided I liked it better than the usual long throw setup so I am keeping it as is. I think your AIM will illustrate this too.
Hope this helps.

Safety Car
you have to options, adjust the shifter linkage(threaded rod). under the car.
2 method look at your shifter arms on the transmission, they typically have 2 holes that the shifter rods can be inserted in, 1 close to pivot point for short throw.
and the second hole (long throw) near the end of the shifter arm, usually stock setup.
Ideally move all shift rods to the close hole, then properly adjust linkage rods, using the shifter setup tool/rod. which sets your shifter exactly in the neutral position.
must learn to type faster ...

Assembly Instruction Manual - a very valuable book to have in your toolbox. All the corvette vendors carry them. They're inexpensive and full of valuable information. Especially when you take stuff apart and can't figure out how to get it back together
