can a 1982 stub shaft in my dana 44 fix itself?
it was leaking like a mad man
it was low, i topped it off, and gradually...it is leaking less and less
and now suddenly it stopped leaking knock on wood
any explanation?

My guess is that the new oil is thicker and you have a small leak in the gasket. If the leak appears in a while, I'd say you are due for a thickening.
Just a guess. I'm glad it spontaneously fixed itself.

Seal may have dried out some and swelled with new fluid, it didn't "fix" itself and my money on it leaks again so keep an eye on it. A seal is cheap, burning up a rearend isn't.
