Default 1972 starting problem

Have 1972 Corvette, stock 350. Starter was clicking before engaging so I replaced the solenoid. Now it won't turn the starter at all. Battery has 12.5 volts. 11.9 volts to battery cable lug on solenoid. With the wire disconnected from the S terminal it reads 11.65 volts. With the wire connected to the S terminal it reads 6.5 volts. Starter works great when using remote starter switch. What do you think the problem is? Thanks for your help.

Default

Check all the wiring again, and the main chassis ground and bat terminals and cables.

Begin with a GOOD, CHARGED battery

Voltage readings at the starter should match the battery voltage.
