Do you have the original THM-400 trans still in the car? If so, that transmission has an inhibitor shift valve that will force an upshift from 1st to 2nd if you just leave the shifter in 1st gear!
It's a little scary doing it for the first time, but when it happens your car will bang hard into 2nd (no spongy converter shift), fishtail a bit till it grabs, and take off. Then, as it is running up in 2nd gear, just shift it to drive and let it finish the run.
If the unit has been rebuilt, talk to the rebuilder and find out if anything was changed to defeat that feature. And if you have swapped out the THM-400, whatever you have in there now is doing a good job.

Experimenting with a Gopro. This was my first time shot before eliminations Sunday. 12.32 at 110 mph, with 1.71 60 ft. I know, it looks like I'm just cruising down the road. It's more interesting during actual racing, when it counts.

Burning Brakes
Lookin' Good!
Nice clean launch, and the nose just stays up nice and high for the whole pass.
One thing I learned about Island Dragway is that the track prep is great. Another thing is that the shut down area is short!
Nice work!

That's a great video..and your car is no bucket of bolts..runs and sounds great to me..I have a '78 w/L48 350 and thm350 and aside from JBM headers and carb properly rebuilt etc..it's pretty much stock. With new P255/60R15 BFG RWL tires..I DON'T think it would burn out..except perhaps on a wet piece of pavement..Fastest I have ever driven mine was a tad over 90mph..and tho all worked great..a bit fast for this old fellow... I haven't taken a car to a drag strip in 50 years..and that was 1936 chevy coupe with a 283 and a 4 barrel carb and floor shift..jim
Thanks. I've been sorting it out for years.

Thanks. I took over 20 years off drag racing before getting back into it about 6 years ago.

Nice run......impressive time for a 383 with iron heads.....
Gives me confidence that I should be able to pull off a high 11.
