Default Quarter mile pass - in car video

Experimenting with a Gopro. This was my first time shot before eliminations Sunday. 12.32 at 110 mph, with 1.71 60 ft. I know, it looks like I'm just cruising down the road. It's more interesting during actual racing, when it counts.

I would say 1500 is good . My local track is 2500 Ft and last time I went out the DA was closer to 3000 , most nights I checked were closer to 4000 . Still hoping to see a 12.9 next year . Afr gauge to install for more fine tuning of motor next year

Have you tried to manual shift the car? Sounds like it's going from 2nd to 3rd a bit early.

Nice pass. What tires are you using and pressure and what gear are you running? Strong running motor.

Elevation at the track is 500 ft, so we can get negative DA numbers. At zero DA you'd easily be in the 12s.

Good catch. My 1-2 shift is at 5800, the 2-3 shift is at 5500. With the stock shifter, if I manually shift from 2 to 3, it can slip into neutral. Did that once, I'm surprised the engine survived.

I have BFG 275/60/15 drag radials, at 24 psi - no wheelspin. I don't think they make them anymore so I will be switching to M/T. Rear gear is 3.73.

Thanks. 3000 stall converter, TH350, 3.73 rear, Spicer U joints, billet caps on inner half shaft joints.

Hey Bruce, It was nice meeting you at the track.

That car of yours goes down the track as if it was on a Sunday cruise. You make it look simple. Very nice!

Thanks Joe. Nice meeting you. I can't wait to see your car run with some traction to go along with that 124mph top end.

Thanks guys.

The sound is a combination of the Quadrajet and Magnaflow mufflers. BTW the Magnaflows get louder after more use.

BK, thanks for the response. Just one more question, what size motor is that? Seems to run very well, good job!

Nice pass, I love how the front end comes up just like your avatar pic.

I wish I had your traction....not so with the BFG's street tires

My ETs are all in the launch really. With an automatic, all you need is a converter, gears AND drag radials.

Thanks Tom. I'm glad I took the vid early because I only lasted till round 2. Got beat by that Duster that's all lettered up, looks like a super stock type car. Get this, I had a .006 light AND I LOST. He ran right on his 10.85 dial at 125 mph. His light was good at .040 and I crossed first and broke out badly, 12.29 on a 12.35 dial, my quickest time of the day by .03. Oh well.

Do you have the original THM-400 trans still in the car? If so, that transmission has an inhibitor shift valve that will force an upshift from 1st to 2nd if you just leave the shifter in 1st gear!

It's a little scary doing it for the first time, but when it happens your car will bang hard into 2nd (no spongy converter shift), fishtail a bit till it grabs, and take off. Then, as it is running up in 2nd gear, just shift it to drive and let it finish the run.

If the unit has been rebuilt, talk to the rebuilder and find out if anything was changed to defeat that feature. And if you have swapped out the THM-400, whatever you have in there now is doing a good job.
