I'm not sure exactly what is different but the "parking brake assembly" (part 378207) is a 1977-1982 only part. I suspect that such is very similar to the 1968-1976 and may even share some parts but that fitment with the rest of the center console is the real problem.

Hi D,
I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish but both the 70-76 and 77-82 handles are available separately from their operating mechanism.
ZIP:
70-76….DB642
77-82….DB1117

Regards,
Alan

YES...the style of the black handle is different...even though its function is basically the same.

I can buy 78 assembly new condition much cheaper than handle only for 71. why pay 99 for aftermarket handle only. This is why I'm asking this question

I guees it might matter to someone who wants the textured handle....versus the smooth handle on the later design.

To some people it matters...to some.... it does not.

Personally...I leave that up to the owner when I have to service/replace them.

if you can't spend a few dollars more for a correct handle, WHY did you buy a corvette??? Keep away from the ford parts on these cars.

And this is why I generally do not care what a person chooses to do to their Corvette.....within reason...especially if it deals with safety. Then I have a problem.

But havign to have the correct texture of the park brake handle. I ...personally.... could care less. As long as it functions.

Now....if my Corette was 100% pure and sitting at home in the garage looking like a museum peice...THEN ...the correct park brakle handle WOULD matter. If my Corvette was a super sweet custom resto-mod...I could careless.
